Intro to woodworking with Chachi Mathis

This 2-part woodworking class will guide you through the process of constructing a traditional Japanese Toolbox. Recognized for their simplicity and sophistication, they are cleverly constructed using a limited number of cuts and joints, and feature a sliding lid that fastens with a locking wedge. Their design can be easily modified to store a wide range of objects. This beginner class focuses on power tools such as the planer, table saw and router.

If you took this class before, note that the class time is extended. A break will be taken each day to refresh.

Session 1, Saturday June 21st, noon-6 pm

Session 2, Sunday June 22nd, noon-6 pm

Tuition with material included: $195

Charles ‘Chachi’ Mathis (he, him) is an artist, designer and educator with an intimate relationship with materials, processes and fabrication techniques. He currently works as a Fablab/Woodshop Supervisor at the College of Architecture and Design at the University of Tennessee.
